Ways to Celebrate Rakhi Festival

Raksha Bandhan is the Festival celebrated among the siblings with love and affection. Though now this festival is celebrated all across the world but it was started celebrating from the Northern part of India.  The celebration of Rakhi or Rakshabhandhan has its original roots in the Hindu Mythology like all other festivals. No one can celebrate any festival with that enthusiasm like Hindus or any Indian.

Rakhi is celebrated by tying the Rakhi on the wrists of brothers by the Sisters. While tying the Rakhi, sisters pray for their brother’s protection and long life. Brothers in return give them Gifts and Blessings. As per the tradition, sisters has to perform aarti and put tilak on brother’s forehead and then tie the Rakhi, after tying the Rakhi they offer sweets to each other.

Preparations for the Rakhis start from quiet a long time. Different types of Sweets like Ghevar, Malpua, Kesar Barfi, Ladoos, etc are prepared.  Rakhi is celebrated in different styles all across the world. Only in India, Rakhi is celebrated in the most Grand Way. In other parts of India, Rakhi is called and celebrated in a different way.

Rakhi in North :-

In North India, Rakhi is called Kajri Purnima or Kajri Navami. On this day wheat or barley is sown. Goddess Bahgwati is worshipped by the Farmers to get good crops for the entire season.

Rakhi in South :-

In South India, Rakhi is called Avani Avittam.  On this day the Brahmins take holy bath and purify their souls and body and then change their holy thread (Janeyu) and chant mantaras. They also take a Vow to perform their duties and adopt dignity in what they do.

Rakhi in East :-

In Eastern India, Honorable Rabindranath Tagore started celebrating the ‘Rakhi Utsav’. It was started in 1905 and it is celebrated with the same gaiety today also in Shantiniketan.

Rakhi in West :-

In Western India, Rakhi is called Nariyali Poonam. On this day the coconuts are thrown into the sea. This time indicates the beginning of the fishing season.

These are the various ways through which Rakhi is celebrated all around India. Ways for celebrating Rakhi in foreign countries is again distinctive.

Rakhi in European Countries :-

In most of the European Countries, Rakhi is celebrated in the South East Asian Parts. In those parts people are mostly alone so they develop the brotherhood among themselves. They gather at one place and celebrate occasion together.

Rakhi in Nepal :-

It is said that Nepal is the only country in the World. Huge Numbers of Indians reside in Nepal. So in Nepal, Rakhi is celebrated the same way like in India. Over there the day starts with tying the Rakhi to their brothers and end with the family get-togethers.

Rakhi in Gulf Countries :-

People living in Gulf Countries do not believe in the concept of Rakhi. They never celebrate it. The Indian Community which has moved there for the working purpose does celebrate it. They are the ones who introduced this concept there. Still the native do not celebrate it. This is how the Indians bring warmth and love among everybody.

Rakhi is such a Festival which is celebrated in each and every part of the World with various ways and styles.  So Indian Festivals are celebrated in each and every part of the world.
