Do’s and Don’t of Diwali Celebration
India is the country of diverse culture and festivals. Among the colorful and jovial festivities all through out the year, Diwali holds a very important position. The root of this festival originates from the greatest Hindu epic Ramayana and it was celebrated by the dwellers of Ajodhya on the gala occasion of homecoming of Lord Rama Chandra. Diwali is a festival which is celebrated not only by the Hindus staying in India but also by those who reside abroad but carry a bit of India in their hearts. Fireworks and crackers have always been an integral element of Diwali carousing. Here is a list of do’s and don’ts to make your Diwali a perfect festival without any unwanted accident.
Do’s
Fireworks are generally explosive and can cause severe damage to life and property. Hence it is important to keep watch on the kids when they light the fireworks. In fact an adult should be present there to supervise them.
The place that you choose to light the crackers and other fireworks should be a safe one without any combustible or inflammable articles around. There are varieties of safety measures to be taken as precautions on the Diwali night and you should follow them strictly.
A candle or “agarbati” is the best option to light the fireworks as they have a small flame and the chances are low that clothes or other crackers will catch fire from them.
Always keep a bucket full of water or fire extinguisher ready to put off the fire in case of accidents. Ointments to apply on burnt areas should be handy.
If you have purchased some aerial fireworks then make sure you light them at a safe place with open landing area. Otherwise your house or even the neighborhood can catch fire from them.
Don’ts
Often the kids and the adults light the fireworks holding them in hand just to show their courage and this ends up in fatal accidents. So the better option would be putting them down, lighting and walking away. This is not a good idea to light the fireworks in some containers or bottles.
Never use the firecrackers if they have a tendency to malfunction. They often make delay to catch the light and then explode resulting into mishaps. If this is what happening with your piece of firework never go too close to investigate the reason.
When there are trees or wirers overhead never ever lighten the fireworks. If you are inside a vehicle do not touch the fireworks as they can cause severe explosion or take the toll on your life. Say no to the match boxes or even the gas lighters as they often add up to the hazards caused by fire.
Don’t disturb the neighbors on a Diwali day. If someone next door is unhappy with the loud noise of the crackers, stop using them as not a soul around you should feel despondent with your celebrations. Overruling the law is not the sign of a good citizen so avoid that.
Finally make sure your folly is not tarnishing the festive mood and spirits.
